On January 22nd, the Port Moody Firefighters Charitable Society presented the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society a large donation totalling $1000. Supporters of the VCDS since 2017, the Port Moody Firefighters Charitable Society is comprised of first responders who have put in significant time volunteering and fundraising to support
local non-profits, in spite of increased demands in their work as a result of COVID-19.
Their donation, which helps support VCDS’ mission to provide cancer patients across the Lower Mainland safe and reliable transportation to their ongoing treatments, will make a significant difference in the lives of local patients in need.
Members from the firefighter’s group presented the cheque to co-founder and VCDS honorary lifetime member George Garrett, along with VCDS Director Larry Coleman. On the donation, Garrett offered the highest praise: “They’re truly incredible. They are one of the smallest groups but have given the most per member.” George appreciates their small-town focus and their love for their community.
The Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society community impact for 2020 is:
66,502 Patient Trips. 1,954,671 Kilometres Driven. 107,154 Volunteer Hours. 216 Volunteer Drivers.
Thanks to many firefighter charitable organizations who continue making donations, our free cancer patient transportation service’s future demands can be met. The Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society’s need for volunteer drivers continues significantly in the Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge, and Aldergrove.
